Weekly Photo Challenge: Resolved

By Vladimir Brezina

This week’s Photo Challenge is Resolved.

Cape Cod Bay, July 2011. We are Resolved!

Resolved to reach the water, no matter how long it may take

IMGP1564 cropped small

and to set out over the turquoise sea

to “fresh woods, and pastures new.”

And that makes a fine resolution for this New Year as well!

(The story of that day on Cape Cod Bay is here; more photos are here.)

  1. Oh, my goodness. I’ve had put-ins like that, although with dark, slimey mud and surprisingly hard, mangrove shoots! Always got to watch out for those changing tides…

    • Yes, this portage was comparatively pleasant. And we had no choice—it had to be at this time, at this place. Fortunately the boats were empty, unlike on some other trips when we couldn’t even drag the loaded boats a few yards, never mind carry them half a mile…

  2. I love your interpretation of resolved!

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  5. Awesome shots! Great interpretation of resolved!

  6. Thank you and nice to meet you
    Great resolution…get fresher then :)

  7. Great shots, especially the first. It looks like you’re in a desert setting.

  10. hahaha, nice one Vlad. That top photo of Johna is priceless :)

    • Actually, a photo that precedes the first one is even funnier. Johna became Resolved only after having tried magical thinking to bring the water to us, or alternatively to bring us and the boats to the water (she wasn’t fussy on that point):

  12. That’ll teach you not to check the tide tables ;-)

  15. Hi,
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Yes; dare to dream and have the courage to go to them. No matter how long it takes.
    Cheers!

  16. Vlad – I think you should be careful about mouthing off to Johna. She looks like she’s very adept at wielding that paddle! Hopefully you can still outrun her. (I did like the photos of her – I’m glad she let you post them)

Happy New Year to both of you! I look forward to hearing more of your adventures.

    Nancy

    • She is very adept with the paddle, but I believe I can hold my own ;-)

Thanks for the New Year’s wishes, Nancy—the same to you!!

    • Johna Till Johnson

He can out-paddle me for sure, but on dry land I have the advantage, I think. Despite his long, elegant legs, I think I’m the more accomplished sprinter. :-)

That said, thanks for liking the photos! I had to chuckle–I had no idea I was so busy looking “determined” that day!

      • They were a great set of photos and he told a great story to go with them. If I hadn’t read your other post on learning to be athletic with the kayak, I would have thought you had natural skill that someone like me is lacking. I was really encouraged at your “learning” how to do it and learning the rhythm of a new skill and how easy it looks as you do it now.

        • Johna Till Johnson

Thanks! I’m actually not that good. My only “native” ability is endurance, which I think is a frame of mind more than an “ability”. But with diligent effort I’m growing that kinesthetic sense!
