Weekly Photo Challenge: Distorted

By Vladimir Brezina

This week’s Photo Challenge is Distorted.

Sometimes it’s the smoothest mirror that gives the most distorted picture…

Other nice interpretations that I’ve seen:

  4. Great photo. I love the fact that your head is both upside down and the right way up in the reflection. The strong blue and yellow help show the distortion that the water makes too.

    • I can’t resist mirror image shots like this, and I’ve accumulated quite a few of them. (For some reason, most of them show Johna… :-)) Occasionally the water is perfectly flat, producing a perfect, unbroken mirror image. That’s nice to see too. But it’s more interesting when some undulation in the water breaks up and multiplies the image, as here. It’s actually the subtle undulations of otherwise smooth water that have the most impact; larger wind-driven ripples and waves destroy the clarity of the reflected image.

  21. Great take on distortion. The reflected face that’s the right way up looks like it’s sporting a different facial expression!
