Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

By Vladimir Brezina

This week’s Photo Challenge is Silhouette.

Wait, didn’t we already do that theme just a little while ago? Yes, back in August. But that was not the Daily Post’s challenge—it was Ailsa’s challenge on Where’s my backpack?, ahead of the game as usual… (Ailsa herself posted some fantastic silhouettes that you should definitely check out!)

In any case, here are some more silhouettes, or near-silhouettes. A hard-edged one in the late-afternoon sun…

and others softened as the sunlight filters through early-morning fog…

More photos from that trip are here. A second interpretation of “Silhouette” is here.

  3. Aww, thanks for the nod, Vlad, that’s the second time the WordPress challenge has followed my lead, I’m feeling like quite an innovator! That last one with the bridges is really beautiful, but something about the top photo makes my heart skip a beat. Maybe it’s the almost-but-not-quite-there horizon, or the glassy water with that perfect reflection of Johna. Absolutely lovely.

  23. Very nice photos for the challenge – I know that light!! You make the best of the hazy skies. Well, I’ll be back soon, if only for a week – I will look for kayaks, esp. if I take the ferry!

  28. Thanks for the pingback Vlad – and for more of your dreamy silhouettes on the water.
I was so happy we had another shot at the subject because I’ve hundreds of silhouette shots just screaming ‘pick me’ after being overlooked for Ailsa’a challenge!

  32. Vlad, these photographs are terrific! The first one is wonderful. I especially like the reflection of the sun in the water. But the second one is my favorite. The tip of the kayak in the forefront makes this photo standout by adding context and color to the cityscape in the distance and the other kayak.
