This week’s Photo Challenge is Carefree.
In New York City, carefree is still pretty intense.
From this years Coney Island Mermaid Parade.
Another Carefree post is here.

Wonderful entry for the challenge!. They reminds me of the Lee Ann Womack song “I Hope You Dance” and the quote “Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.”
I’m going to Coney Island this weekend; looking for my carefree moments. :-)

Street fair? Great shots! We used to go to the ones in the North End in Boston when we lived there. There was dancing in the streets, but mostly some very serious eating :-)

Not exactly a street fair… a parade, but a very, very special one :-)

Music plays in their heads even when there’s none …. love it.
Was there music? I don’t see instruments. They all look like they’re having FUN and are pretty CAREFREE about it.
Good entry ….

This was at the end of this year’s Coney Island Mermaid Parade.
There was plenty of music of all kinds in the parade—indeed, music was one of the unexpected highlights—and the last official floats had music blasting… and after they had passed, ordinary New Yorkers climbed over the barriers and followed. So there was music still audible, and most certainly in the air… :-)

Loved Coney Island when I was little. Sounds like it was fun … fun … fun.

The pressures are there to commercialize and homogenize Coney Island, like everything else (think Times Square), but New York has a way of resisting… and this parade is one of the best examples of that! :-)

Thank you! These photos made me smile. “You have to dance like no one is watching!”

Well, in NYC everybody studiously pretends to be ignoring what everybody else around them is doing… but also can’t bear the thought of performing and not being watched :-)
