I loved these water shots. I have tried but haven’t come up with anything like these. Maybe because we don’t have fall. Truly artistic.

A lot of these effects are courtesy of the JPEG compression algorithm implemented by the camera that I used to take most of these photos—normally undesirable effects, but they can be used to advantage.
And it helps to have a kayak… ;-)

A true artist – knows what technique to use and when
And yes, the kayak probably helps.

Lovely colours! Some of them look like some abstract paintings.

That’s what inspired this post… These are actually just odd corners of photos that, viewed full-frame, are realistic and actually in most cases quite boring, so that I would normally not look at them twice :-)

Love the ones with the reds and blues. They look like abstract art paintings, which normally do nothing for me. But knowing these are photographs… of fall foliage and water… — amazing!

Does it make a difference, knowing? :-)

Yes! Anyone can smear some oil paints on a canvas, but only an ocean kayaker with a good eye can take photos like that.

Gorgeous! I also have been trying to capture the not so crisp look in my reflections :)

I often find the not-so-crisp look to be easier than the crisp look, unfortunately ;-)

Great images. To me some of them look like the abstract paintings of Gerhard Richter.

I love colorful reflections like these in the water, especially when you add a few ripples.

A few ripples are good, but too many break up the image too much. It’s hard to add just the right number… :-)

That’s true! Mother Nature has plenty of resources to mess up your pictures when she wants to.

Those photos are absolutely beautiful. Monet et al would be proud of you. (One bad thing about seeing so many great photos is that I run out of words to describe them…even with the help of a thesaurus and good vocabulary!) :-)

Then you have a book-ful of lovely words in this post and I’ll let the photos speak. (If I responded with a picture, would that work???)

Beautiful impressionistic photos :) I’m guessing these images had your full uncomplicated attention. Unlike Johna’s grocery evening filled with a moment of blockades.

I think Johna’s experience also had her undivided attention, eventually… we often paddle past Rikers Island, but have no wish to actually spend the night there ;-)
