  1. Oh my goodness your part of the world is really getting true winter this year! Is it much harsher than usual?

    • I don’t think it is, actually. My impression is that winters twenty or thirty years ago, not to mention in the 19th century, were harsher. The last decade featured a number of mild winters. What’s a bit peculiar about this winter is that there have been big and rapid swings in temperature: one day it’s 60 degrees (Fahrenheit), the next day the temperature plummets to -10 degrees…

  3. But I would be TERRIFIED out there on the water in those tiny little craft. I don’t have a brave (or practical) bone in my somewhat large body, alas! It has been suggested that they’re all in my head .. [grin]

  7. Beautiful, eerie shots again, Vlad, thanks! Enjoyed all the comments so far, too. Had a few chuckles. And “Palisades Park”, my brain started playing the organ part in my head, as a keyboard player that’s not so unusual, but it certainly does show my age! Stay warm and I hope you don’t have to shovel snow. After reading Johna’s latest on your Everglades paddle, I am ready to review some pictures of our mangrove paddles last month and maybe even do another blog, to balance out the cold Portland weather (with sun and no snow, luckily).

  8. The enormity of the ocean is bewildering, isn’t it? It dwarfs all.

  13. When I look at the photographs of your kayaking on the chilly river, I wonder how you got bitten by the kayak bug…perhaps it is somewhere on the blog and I am coming to it all late. Just invigorating adventure- vicariously for me through your photographs.

    • Actually, come to think of it, I don’t think it’s anywhere on the blog. Foundational myths are best left unexamined… ;-)

But seriously, that would make a good post—I’ll add it to the list :-) Thanks!!
