In the middle of the city, you don’t see the horizon. Well before sunset, the sun dips behind a dark palisade of silhouettes
To see the sun touch the horizon, you must climb very high
or, down below, wait for a very special day
Or, of course, watch from your kayak on the river!
A response to this week’s Photo Challenge, Silhouette, and Ailsa’s travel-themed photo challenge, Horizons.
Cool cityscape shots !

gorgeous silhouettes and sunsets. Amazing to see all the people taking photos of Manhattanhenge..

Yes, Manhattanhenge has become increasingly popular over the last few years… Soon it will be necessary to go on to the next thing to stay ahead of the crowd! We’ve talked about attending the winter version of Manhattanhenge (as yet unnamed), one of the two days around the winter solstice when the rising sun will be visible at the eastern end of Manhattan’s streets. Presumably the need to get up before dawn in December or January will keep attendance of that event down :-)

Love the kayaks on the river. I lost my kayak in a bushfire in February. I’m a a calm water paddler, but your photographs have helped me decide to replace my beautiful kayak. Michael

Wonderful horizons!!! Love all of them…But specially the first one from the kayak…Such a lovely view…!!!

The first one actually isn’t taken from a kayak, unfortunately. That’s the Reservoir in Central Park—no kayaks allowed. But the last two were taken from a kayak, and so was this one :-)

Ohhh!!! That one is absolutely great!!!!
Yes..It was my mistake..I was trying to say the first one of the last two…(A bit difficult for me in English!!! :) :) )
The light is so wonderful!!!!!! I could stay there for hours sipping a glass of wine!!!! :) :)

Actually, not your mistake at all! Now that I read it again, I see what you meant. It can be read in two ways, and I chose the other one :-)
We can’t usually allow ourselves too much wine on our kayak trips—we might start paddling in circles… :-)

Seeing what appears to be 2 setting suns makes Hudson River Sunset 2 look like a shot in a sci-fi flick. Great, great capture for this week’s challenge!

what beautiful photos! The sunset on the bay (where I live) is very overrated.

The sunset itself isn’t often that interesting. It’s what’s in the foreground, and the clouds of course—got to have at least a few clouds! :-)
