This week’s Photo Challenge is Humanity, set by Thirdeyemom. She writes: “The more I see the world, the more I realize that although people are different, we’re very much the same.”
Although sometimes I do wonder if we’re all the same species—

To me, the word “humanity” somehow suggests the mass :-)

Those beaches at Coney Island are too crowded for my taste.

Same here. I never go, and most certainly not to sit on the beach.

Great entry! I love the peace of the second shot juxtaposed to the crowds at Coney Island. I like your point that sometimes you wonder if we are all the same species, especially given the extreme cruelty and hatred of some human beings. Good point.

What a beautifully-presented contrast! Ah, we Americans…definitely not the same species as the Brits!

I’m with Colline! I prefer beaches with hardly any humans on them, and luckily I have a few not too far away.

Oh dear! Is Coney Island always like that in summer? No place to walk, even? Looking at the last picture I thought I saw a torso in the foreground (cataracts, don’t you know?) which didn’t really surprise me, looking at the crush….quite disappointed to finally recognize a shopping-cum-hand-bag.

Well, this was a special occasion, the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. So the boardwalk was unusually crowded just there, where the parade ended. But the nearby beach was full of people who weren’t there for the parade—it’s probably that crowded every nice weekend in the summer.
But it could have been a lot more crowded still. I recall Weegee’s famous photos of Coney Island just before WWII :-)

Great contrasting scenes. Despite the crowds Coney Island looks to be more fun though…

Great juxtaposition. Not the last word on differences, of course, but some pretty good first words.
