Fearsome Sails, Ancient and Modern

By Vladimir Brezina

Sailors have always put fierce images on their sails to intimidate their enemies:

… and now—

... and now

… sailing forth to intimidate, at least, their brand’s enemies.

  1. Those Greek Galley’s were reputedly quite lethal in battles at sea. But I suspect the Vikings were more dangerous once they’d waded ashore – Eric bloodaxe and all that! As for the modern ‘intimidation’… There’s no axes involved but it will still get your liver ;-)

Dear Dr Brezina – I very much like your pictures – would you kindly give your permission for me to use for a publication I have done – – the theme of spiritual searching – the one as follows with a solitary figure by the beach in the pinky, mauve sunset hues. Sorry to ask like this but I don’t know how else to contact you and this seemed a recent post so am trying this one. Best wishes, Wanda Skowronska (from Sydney Australia) https://www.google.com.au/search?q=solitary+figure+by++beach+sunrise&tbm=isch&imgil=xtVkZ1DYIADTaM%253A%253B0WoF4MgnvaWgCM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwindagainstcurrent.com%25252Ftag%25252Fsunrise%25252Fpage%25252F2%25252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=xtVkZ1DYIADTaM%253A%252C0WoF4MgnvaWgCM%252C_&biw=1715&bih=954&usg=__V99_1V2Q1Qg9H_rYK8vxYpemzzE%3D&ved=0CCYQyjdqFQoTCJ_KqYLhosgCFQuQDQodDS8NZg&ei=Oe4NVt_JNIugNo3etLAG#imgrc=xtVkZ1DYIADTaM%3A&usg=__V99_1V2Q1Qg9H_rYK8vxYpemzzE%3D
