He was originally from (the former) Czechoslovakia and lived in the U.K. and California before settling down in New York. He was a neuroscientist at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He died in 2016.Johna Till Johnson

They are pretty good here in NYC, although late as usual. Central Park itself doesn’t have the greatest color—the trees there turn mostly yellow and brown, rather than red—but bright colors can always be found if you look…And of course the sun brings everything to life :-)

Ours leaves have either already fallen, or still holding on and are dark/drab

Its the same over here in Scotland! The plum tree outside my window is still green, while the maples have mostly shed their glorious coloured coats already. Isn’t nature amazing the way we get a different show each year?

One year we even had snow still in October, right in the middle of the foliage season, very unusual for NYC. Of course, another year we had Superstorm Sandy in October…

In the park the fallen leaves just magically disappear. :-) I don’t know what they do with them—probably nothing, just let them decay where they’ve fallen, the natural way…

These days, Central Park is maintained by its own conservancy, funded by all the rich people who live around the park, which has its own people. (Don’t know how much they get paid :-) ) Now other parks in the city also want some of the action…
