Park Bench Sentiments

Central Park benchesMany benches in NYC’s Central Park bear engraved metal plaques. For a donation, one can endow a bench as part of the Park’s “Adopt-a-Bench” program.

As you might imagine, the engravings are sometimes sentimental, and often heartbreaking. Too often, they memorialize a loved one who’s clearly still missed by grieving friends and relatives: “To my beloved…”, “In memory of my dear…”

.

And then there’s this one:

"So far so good"

It made us laugh. And agree that it’s something to be grateful for!

Looks like the benches are all waiting for better weather. ;-)

You too, Dina! And the weather here has finally “broken”–warm, almost sultry days, with sunshine and cool breezes (although this morning is overcast). Even though it’s a few weeks earlier than normal, spring feels like a long time coming…

  3. Love that plaque. Makes me wonder when I’ll be sighing this on reaching a bench! ;)

You too, Pit! I have to wonder about the discussion that happened before that plaque: “Let’s endow a bench!” “Great idea! But what should it say? Nobody’s died, there’s nobody to endow it for… we’re lucky it’s been good so far…” “Hey, let’s say THAT!” :-)
