the cruelty is in the fact that we are all made to eat! Lovely observational sequence with the scary Johna to complete it

Johna looked scary to me, coming out of the water like that! But she says the gull was actually just yawning ;-)

The first photo looks like the crab is winding up to punch the gull in the beak. What an excellent slide show.

I have another photo (not included here because it’s out of focus) where the crab is putting up both his claws like a boxer… (different crab, different gull—gulls were capturing crabs all the time at that spot).
OK, here it is:

Fantastic, Vlad. It’s hard not to feel for the feisty little guy fighting for his life, but the slightly bigger guy does have to eat.

Oh, these are AWESOME photos! What a great opportunity you had to capture these! I think my favorite one is the one you posted before your slideshow. Brave little thing.

It was pretty easy to get these photos—the gulls completely ignored me and did their thing as I strolled among them…

Great story line of photographs. Sadly, gulls gotta eat!
The Gulls down in Hastings a couple of weekends ago certainly weren’t afraid of humans – they were loitering with intent to pinch fries at every opportunity!

Unless the humans got too close, these gulls just ignored humans. They didn’t need to pinch food—they were sleek and satiated, having plenty of crabs to eat…

Oh well. Sometimes you’re the seagulls. Sometimes you’re the crab.

I didn’t see that coming – but give him his due the poor crab went down fighting.
