“Surely you can’t be serious.”
“Look at me! Aren’t I pretty?”
“I’m getting too old for this…”
“I wonder what those kids taste like.”
This is our second post in response to Ailsa’s Travel-Themed Photo Challenge, Animals. Our first post was here.
Love the captions!

The kids were separated from the leopard by just a pane of glass, and he was staring at them so intently…

It’s the way they suddenly fix their stare at you, unblinking—can be very uncomfortable, to say the least…

Good Evening: Good job with the wild birds; in my experience, they can be quite a bit difficult to photograph. Something about their reluctance to remain in the presence of humans. Vonn Scott Bair

Normally this is so, but these birds allowed themselves to be approached quite closely. The ones in Florida (spoonbill, heron, egret) were confident in their own territory, the ones in New Jersey (gulls) were used to humans, the rest (in NYC’s Central Park Zoo) were just bored…

Lucky for you Vlad….even with their being still I am happy to admit that these are exceptionally well taken :)

Great interpretation of their expressions. Is photo 12 a swan or a goose?
LikeLike
That’s actually a good question. I called it a goose because that’s the first thing that came into mind, but it could also be some kind of swan. I guess I’ll have to go back there (the Central Park Zoo here in NYC) and this time write down the names of all the animals I photograph…

What a great set of images and a clever way to present them. Loved seeing the egret; when we lived in the Virginia Tidewater area, we saw them every day – so beautiful.

Very beautiful indeed… in NYC we seem to have a surprising number of great blue herons and some white egrets, but not that kind of white egret with yellow feet…

Great animal photos — but the added dimension of anthropomorphic expressions is just fabulous — it adds so much depth. This is what pulls us into the image and separates average images from the really memorable ones.

Great close ups.. I WANT your camera

:-)
Actually, there’s nothing that special about the camera (it’s a Nikon D80), but you do want to get in close with a telephoto lens (most of these photos were taken with a 300mm lens)…
LikeLike
Ahhh.. I think we had this discussion. I have a point and shoot and no telephoto.. but it inspires me to take it into consideration (again) on my next upgrade
LikeLike
Yes, I think we did have this discussion, and it is something to think about when you upgrade. I personally would find it hard to get really good closeups with a point-and-shoot (I know from experience with my Pentax Optio), although there are people who can do wonders with something that’s not much more sophisticated—see for example Cornel Apostol’s photos here…

Yeah I know.. I think I am still not ready for the next step. but wow.. amazing photos. By the end of next year before I go to Nepal i will make a decision… for now I love the ease of a basic camera but have envy every time I see the telephoto shots.
