  8. I usually don’t see herons so close to people. Maybe they’re a little shier up here in new England. Great shots.

    • Yes, they (and many other types of birds) are unusually tame in Florida. Maybe tame isn’t quite the word for it. They keep an eye out, and will not let a human get closer than a certain distance, but they’ve learned that that distance can safely be very close…

  24. Great blue herons are such spectacular birds and great fishers. I’ve never been as close as you were as in my neck o’ the woods they are quite shy. We have a creek behind our house and when I walk our pooch in the early morning I often see one in the stalking breakfast. Your photos are really charming!
