Scale

By Vladimir Brezina

Big fleas have little fleas,
Upon their backs to bite ’em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas,
and so, ad infinitum.

And the great fleas, themselves, in turn
Have greater fleas to go on;
While these again have greater still,
And greater still, and so on.

But, big or little, they are all overwhelmed by the incoming tide—

  4. A nice, literal interpretation reminding me I am on a crusade to figure out how to get the barnacles off the mussels without a chisel!

  5. I loved all the detail on the pictures. They were all great but for different reasons.

    • What reasons, if I may ask?

      • I enjoyed the top picture because I saw the whole thing – the composition was appealing and so were all the shells, lines, and other smudgy things.

The next two showed finer and finer details. They were also composed to be pleasing, but the top one had lines leading from one corner to the other, while the other was circles and swirls. I found the detail fascinating – so much there to see!

The last one – while perhaps not technically as good – brought closure to the story, showing the tide starting to come in.

I’d say my favorite was the second one – I liked the composition and detail the best. But all were good.

Does that make sense? Not sure if that’s what you intended, although I find that I tell the story and then later figure out why I chose the elements that I actually used.

        • Thanks, Nancy! That feedback is really helpful.

Yes, I find that I assemble the photos to tell a story, if possible. And I don’t pay much explicit attention to the composition, etc.—I just pick photos that appeal to me :-)

But yes, the idea was to show finer and finer details, and then the tide coming in. So it came across!
