Travel Theme: Architecture

By Vladimir Brezina

Ailsa’s travel-themed photo challenge this week is Architecture.

Manhattan, of course, is full of dramatic architecture. But it’s sometimes hard to grasp it all from the inside. You need to stand a bit apart—or even better, sit in a kayak!

Here is some of Manhattan’s architecture that we saw on our paddle just this last weekend (full set of photos is here):

Weekly Photo Challenges: One Shot, Two Ways in Architecture

By Vladimir Brezina

This week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post is One Shot, Two Ways, and from Ailsa at Where’s My Backpack? it is Architecture.

Most architectural sculptures work hard at their jobs.

Caryatids carry things on their heads….

.

… even gargoyles make themselves useful when it rains

But these guys are just hanging out, shooting the breeze…

What was the sculptor thinking? Any ideas?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrast

By Vladimir Brezina

This week’s Photo Challenge is Contrast.

And New York City is a city of contrasts, photographically and otherwise:

A couple of these photos are already elsewhere on this blog, but I do like them and they seem to fit well this week’s theme…

More New York Cityscapes are here.

Some other nice interpretations I’ve seen:

New York Cityscapes

By Vladimir Brezina

I always promise myself that I will go out especially to take photos of New York City’s spectacular architecture. And I will… some day!

In the meantime, though, incidental photo-ops offer themselves… I posted some of the results a while ago in Beauty and the Beast. Here are a few more.
