Happy Winter!

Ailsa’s travel-themed photo challenge this week is Winter.

In NYC, meteorological Winter has been with us for quite some time. And with tomorrow’s Winter Solstice, astronomical Winter starts as well. But there is a silver lining—even though the coldest days are yet to come, from today the day length will steadily increase toward Spring…

In the meantime, Happy Winter!

First Snow

It’s snowing! The first real snow of the winter. Quick, everyone out into the park before it melts!

We walk out into the park
… well bundled up
A splash of red against the white
… and a little blue
It’s sticking!
The mountain lion doesn’t mind the snow
Remnants of fall
They waste no time
Yellow coat
One tree is holding onto its leaves
Alice in Wonderland statue
Trefoil Arch
Shelter from the storm
Snowy ledges
To the Bethesda Fountain
It’s coming down thick
A photoshoot!
Pink umbrella
Pose!
Air is thick with snowflakes
Promenade along the Mall
Coming back, the photoshoot is still on
Many photographers get in on the act
Later, dusk
Across the park, lights of the West Side
Pools of light in the darkness
